Wow the midsummer classic is upon us and this thread is on the 3rd page?

Impressive showing by Jose Ortiz last night

Sad news today however as George Steinbrenner passes away.

For all the criticism I normally have for them, ESPN has done an outstanding job today covering Steinbrenner's passing, far out-shining MLBN.

First of all, i want to give my condolences to the Yankees fans on the passing of the Boss. While i didn`t agree with a lot of the things he did, i do respect his competitive nature in doing whatever it takes to bring home World Series titles. BTW YES is outshining everyone else on the coverage of the Boss` passing, which i`m sure he would approve of.

As for tonight`s All Star Game, i want badly for the NL to finally end this terrible winless streak. Now being a devoted Braves fans, i have no love for the Mets and Phillies, but tonight will be the only night i will cheer on Ryan Howard and David Wright. I hope that those guys along with Martin Prado and Ubaldo Jimenz will lead the NL to victory tonight.

It would figure on the day George passes a Yankee gets the loss in the ASG.

Though Thornton and his BB + 2B had more to do with it than Hughes' meh hit singles. Sigh.

Finally the NL wins the ASG and Brian McCann wins the MVP with his three run double.

i agree 100%, they handled it and covered it really well today!

first off, my condolences to the NYY and their fans and their entire organization as well as to the Steinbrenner family.

secondly, congrats to the NL to finally break the 13 year winless, i still don't like the game deciding home field advantage, that game was a good game!

I'm not a big fan of the all star game deciding who gets home field advantage in the World Series either but I guess they want the game to mean something. But still, congrats to the NL for their win yesterday.

Congrats to Matt Garza for throwing the first no-hitter in Rays history, giving up only 1 BB. Year of the pitcher, indeed.

Edwin Jackson is supposedly close to going to the White Sox.

I wouldn't mind if the Yankees could push a deal through for Adam Dunn, since they have a hole at DH... though I doubt it will happen.

Tejada went to the Padres.

Tigers are rumored to be interested in Mike Lowell.

Oswalt didn't look so hot in his Phillies debut.

Lilly is rumored to be going to the Dodgers today.

Wow. There was a whole bunch of terrific endings to games today (Nats/Phils, Giants/Dodgers, Yanks/Rays, Red Sox/Tigers, Rockies/Cubs). This is the type of day where you know it's great to be a baseball fan.

With the final regular season games now over with, it is playoff time!

Here is an overview on the final races that came down to today.

First in the AL East, the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, which makes the Rays the AL East champions. The Yankees will settle for the AL Wild Card.

Then in the NL West, the Giants defeated the Padres to win the NL West title.

Finally in the NL Wild Card, the Atlanta Braves , who i`m very happy to say, won the Wild Card with their win over the Phillies along with the Padres` loss later on.

So the playoff picture is now set with the Ray taking on the Rangers and the Yankees facing the Twins in the ALDS, while the Phillies will play the Reds and the Giants will take on the Braves in the NLDS. The Rays/Rangers, Yankees/Twins and Phillies/Reds series will start on Wednesday, while the Giants/Braves series will start on Thursday. I hope that we`ll get to see everyone back here to discuss the playoffs.
